Physician says Jeb Bush in 'excellent' health

After previously struggling with his weight, 62-year-old Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush is in "excellent physical and mental condition," according to a health summary from his physician, The Hill reported.

Mr. Bush, who is 6 feet 4 inches tall, has shed at least 30 pounds over the last year after making the switch to the Paleo diet, in which individuals eat lean meat, fruit and vegetables and avoid dairy and processed grains. His physician, Alberto Mitrani, MD, said his blood pressure and blood sugar are now at normal levels, according to the report.

Dr. Mitrani has been Mr. Bush's physician since 2007. He said Mr. Bush is "proactive" about his heart health and is "actively engaged" in his healthcare. He added Mr. Bush has used a cholesterol-lowering drug called Atorvastatin since 2013, attentive to his family history and a "minor thickening" of his carotid artery, according to the report.

Mr. Bush's brother, former President George W. Bush, had heart surgery in 2013 for a blocked artery. Their father, former President George H. Bush, at 91-years-old has maintained rather stable health.
