Pence, governors discuss Medicaid under ACA replacement: 4 takeaways

ACA replacement was the focus of a discussion Sunday between 10 state governors and Vice President Mike Pence, according to a Reuters report.

Here are four takeaways.

1. Governors have come up with a plan to reform Medicaid, and they presented that plan to the vice president and HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, sources told Reuters.

2. Under the governors’ plan, more than 30 states that have expanded Medicaid would be able to keep expansion, according to the report, which cites a copy of the proposal. Also, states that have not expanded Medicaid could to do so under the proposal, the report states.

3. The governors’ plan specifies states could expand Medicaid to people with income at or below 138 percent of the federal poverty level, and they could keep enhanced federal funding set aside for Medicaid expansion, reports Reuters.

4. President Donald Trump said Tuesday governors should have “the resources and flexibility they need with Medicaid to make sure no one is left out,” Reuters reports.
