Ms. Pelosi’s spokesperson told reporters Jan. 3 that she would back the hearings. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., the legislation’s main sponsor in the House, said hearings would likely begin in the House Rules and Budget committees before moving to the Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce committees.
Though Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, has not committed to holding the hearings, Ms. Jayapal said she is confident he will eventually support them.
“He hasn’t committed that to me, but I have the speaker’s commitment that she will help me to do this,” said Ms. Jayapal. “And I spoke to [Mr.] Pallone, and [Mr.] Pallone is not opposed, he just hasn’t said yes yet.”
