Though President Donald Trump has encouraged legislators to continue their healthcare push, Mr. Hatch believes the Senate should focus its efforts on tax reform and return to healthcare later. Though he does not believe in cost-sharing reduction subsidies, Mr. Hatch also noted that it would most likely be necessary to provide funding for them in order to stabilize ACA exchanges.
Mr. Hatch blamed both Republicans and Democrats for the Senate’s inability to pass healthcare legislation, with the most recent healthcare proposal defeated 51 to 49 after three Republicans voted with Democrats against the bill.
