The nurses are protesting the direction of ongoing labor negotiations. The president of the Santa Rosa-based Staff Nurses Association, which represents roughly 650 nurses, told the Press Democrat there has been “progress on some issues, but not on the critical issues,” such as staffing, job security, benefits and pay.
Nurses formed a picket line Monday at 5 a.m., and later in the morning, roughly two dozen nurses joined the picket in front of the hospital, according to the report. The report did not specify how many nurses picketed or are involved in the strike.
Although the strike is scheduled for two days, nurses will not be able to return to work until Friday. An agency providing replacement nurses to the hospital requires a four-day commitment, according to the report.
