Roughly 1,600 nurses, part of SEIU Local 121RN, will take to picket lines unless a contract agreement is reached. Federally mediated negotiations ended over the weekend, according to the report.
According to a news release by the union, nurse-to-patient staffing ratios is one area of the contract where the two sides were unable to agree.
The hospitals plan to bring in temporary workers to remain in operation during the strike.
