Northwestern Memorial in Chicago Lays Off 230 Employees

Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago laid off 230 employees in the past month as part of an initiative to lessen its cost structure by 25 percent by 2017, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Layoffs affected most of Northwestern’s departments, including administration, patient care and operations departments. The health system employs roughly 7,000 people.

The system attributed the staff reductions to reduced patient volume and pending Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement cuts.
