New York hospital threatens to sue town over firing of hospital board chief

The board of managers of Massena (N.Y.) Memorial Hospital is threatening to sue the town government of Massena, which owns the hospital, for its firing of Susan Bellor, the hospital’s incoming board chairwoman, according to Fox 28.

The hospital and town have feuded over Massena Memorial’s proposed merger with  Ogdensburg, N.Y.-based Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center/North Star Health Alliance and Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., which town supervisor Steve O’Shaughnessy has said are not the best potential partners. After the town fired Ms. Bellor, the hospital’s law firm said it would challenge the move.

“Please consider this letter formal written notice that termination or removal of a member of the Board of Managers without proper cause (misconduct) would have no legal basis or effect and will be legally challenged immediately,” the law firm wrote.
