Dr. McCabe is listed on the hospital’s payroll as senior assistant president, though when asked by Syracuse.com reporters if the position was full time, Dr. McCabe referred all questions to the hospital. Reporters’ questions sparked from Dr. McCabe’s Jan. 8 Facebook post detailing a Caribbean cruise he was on, when a friend commented asking if the trip was for business or vacation.

“Vacation … work is no longer in my future!” Dr. McCabe wrote in response, according to Syracuse.com.

SUNY Upstate spokesman Darryl Geddes said Dr. McCabe provides important consulting services to hospital leadership.

“Dr. McCabe has a long history with Upstate, making his institutional knowledge of hospital operations and their interface with SUNY and the regulatory environment valuable for the transition,” said Mr. Geddes, according to Syracuse.com
