The City of New Orleans acquired Methodist from Universal Health Services in 2010 for $16.25 million with the goal of reopening the East New Orleans facility.
The city had asked for $30 million from the state, and its reopening still requires an additional $60-70 million after the most recent funding from the state. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu expects to obtain that funding from federal HUD grants and additional funds form the state.
The city doesn’t expect to reopen the hospital until 2013, but does plan to open an urgent care clinic in the facility next month, according to the report.
