The decision allows Rex, owned by UNC Health Care, to expand its services in Wake County, which has drawn fire from WakeMed Health & Hospitals, also based in Raleigh, which said the move could duplicate services.
Both WakeMed and Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health also sought approval to add beds in Wake County. Novant was denied its request, while WakeMed was granted approval for 51 additional bed, 50 less than the system originally requested, according to a Triangle Business Journal report.
