The governing council of Nashville, Tenn., has approved two measures related to operations and leadership at Nashville General Hospital, the hospital confirmed in a statement shared with Becker’s.

On April 1, the council approved a $10 million supplemental funding request and an $890,813.26 settlement with former CEO Joseph Webb, DSc.

The $10 million payment to the Hospital Authority of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, previously approved by the hospital authority board, will help address an anticipated revenue shortfall through the end of the fiscal year, the hospital said.

The funds will also help strengthen the hospital’s financial position, including hiring a financial consulting firm to recommend long-term solutions for sustainability, the hospital said.

Nashville General added that it “remains committed to its mission as the city’s safety-net hospital, providing vital healthcare services to all residents. The support from the mayor’s office and Metro Council underscores a shared commitment to strengthening the hospital’s future.”

Dr. Webb stepped down in March following an investigation into alleged misconduct.

The settlement “formally concludes his tenure with Nashville General. With this matter resolved, the hospital authority board and leadership team are focused on ensuring stability, accountability and continued high-quality care for the community,” the hospital said.

Dr. Webb led Nashville General for 10 years. Chief Nursing Officer Veronica Elders, MSN, RN, was appointed acting manager.
