“We are devastated at the tragic and sudden passing of a leader and friend,” the system said. “Our Board of Trustees and the entire Mount Carmel family is mourning this loss. On behalf of everyone at Mount Carmel, we extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to Michael’s family and friends.”
Mr. Wilkin, 50, was pronounced dead in his home the evening of Sept. 25.
An investigator with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the case and told The Dispatch the cause of his death is pending autopsy and toxicology reports.
Mr. Wilkins joined Mount Carmel East in 2016 as president and COO after serving as CEO of Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., for three years.
