An $80.8 million renovation will triple the size of the emergency department at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, according to a Crain’s New York Business report.
NYU Langone officials said the hospital’s current ED is poorly configured, which results in long wait times and inefficient utilization of space. The ED’s size is appropriate for 20,000 annual visits, but saw 41,000 in 2009, according to the report.
Approximately $67.4 million of the expansion funding comes from a bond sale, and donors have contributed the rest, according to the report. The multi-phased project will take three years to complete.
