Additionally, the hospital will lay off 129 nurses, therapists and other employees, according to KCUR 89.3, a radio station in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The hospital has provided acute psychiatric services to patients for more than three decades.

Susan Fitzpatrick, the hospital’s business director, attributed the closure to the corporate parent, King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services.

“There was a very thorough process that was gone through by our corporate office,” she told KCUR. “Ultimately, we felt that now and into the rest of this year, there will be additional beds by other facilities, so we feel the community’s needs will continue to be met.”

The hospital is no longer accepting new patients.
