The letter was written by Michael Busk, MD, system executive of St. Vincent Health’s Wellness and Preventative Care Institute in Indianapolis, who is a board-certified internal medicine physician and pulmonologist and has been Gov. Pence’s physician since March 2013.
Dr. Busk reports Gov. Pence is overall a healthy, active 57-year-old man with allergies and diet-controlled heartburn. However, Gov. Pence is noted to be 5 feet 10 inches tall and weigh 208 pounds, which is considered overweight by the National Institutes of Health. Gov. Pence also has an asymptomatic left bundle branch block, which can indicate heart disease, particularly because his family has a history of heart disease — his father died of a heart attack. However, Gov. Pence is not a smoker and his father was, as Dr. Busk notes, and Gov. Pence has had the issue extensively evaluated. His cardiologists have concluded he has a “very good and strong heart,” according to Dr. Busk.
