HCA’s Kendall Regional Medical Center and Mercy Hospital, both in Miami, and Tenet’s Palmetto General in Hialeah, Fla., have all either filed an application with the state or written letters of intent to develop trauma centers. The move could revive the county’s trauma network, which dissolved 14 years ago after all but Jackson’s trauma center closed due to financial losses, according to the report. Jackson has responded to the renewed interest in trauma by filing letters of intent to open trauma centers at its satellite locations.
The Florida Department of Health is expected to rule on Kendall’s and several other applications before Dec. 1.
