Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. The layoffs are a result of lower than expected patient volumes amid the consolidation of Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital. The campuses were combined to create Merit Health Natchez.
2. Merit Health Natchez did not disclose to WAPT the exact number of affected workers, but did say the cuts represented 5 percent of the workforce.
3. Merit Health Natchez does not expect the job cuts to impact care.
