The supervisors unanimously approved the health system’s plans for a $14 million expansion that would increase Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s bed capacity to 289 beds. In exchange for the approval, the health system has agreed to contribute $2 million in resolving expected traffic congestions issues for the neighboring Gum Springs community. Gum Springs and other community and public leaders would have a voice in that process.

In addition, the health system must return to the board throughout the expansion for additional approvals.
