Meet the leaders of Haven, Amazon-Berkshire-JP Morgan's healthcare venture

The high-profile healthcare venture formed by Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan Chase healthcare finally has a name and a website.

The venture will be called Haven, and its newly launched website unveiled its small leadership team.

A few things to know about each of the nine leaders:

1. CEO: Atul Gawande, MD. Dr. Gawande was tapped to lead the venture last June. Even before he was chosen to lead Haven, Dr. Gawande was well known in the medical field. He practices general and endocrine surgery at Boston-based Brigham and Women's Hospital and also is a professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is a staff writer for The New Yorker. A lesser-known fact about Dr. Gawande is that his friends' encouragement launched his writing career.

2. COO: Jack Stoddard. Jack Stoddard was selected to serve as COO last September. Mr. Stoddard was part of the executive team that created Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. He also co-founded Accolade, a Comcast Ventures-backed startup that helps workers manage their health benefits. Mr. Stoddard has worked in healthcare for 25 years and brings a deep understanding of how technology can address friction points in the industry.

3. Chief Information Security Officer: Michael Higgins. Mr. Higgins, a security executive with more than 20 years of experience, came aboard as CISO in February. He previously served in executive security positions for NBC Universal, The New York Times and LexisNexis. He has been a consultant to Fortune 500 companies, including Time Warner, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase.

4. Chief Technology Officer: Serkan Kutan. Mr. Kutan announced in a LinkedIn post in February that he had been selected as CTO. He is the former CTO of online medical appointment platform Zocdoc, backed by Bezos Expeditions, the venture fund of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. He also previously worked as principal engineer of e-commerce at Amazon and spent more than a decade at Microsoft.

5. Chief of Staff: Megan McLean. Ms. McLean joined Haven in August as chief of staff.  She previously served as chief of staff at Ariadne Labs, the joint health system innovation center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She also served as a career coach at Harvard Business School.

6. Head of Finance: Liam Brenner. Mr. Brenner, who joined the team this year, previously served as principle of TechCXO, a leading provider of on-demand executives. TechCXO works to provide startups with access to interim executives. He has expertise in cash management and forecasting, financial modeling, merger and acquisition activity and full cycle management.

7. General Manager: Mary Jane Favazza. Ms. Favazza became general manager in December. She was part of the founding team of Good Measures, an online platform aiming to improve diabetes care management. Ms. Favazza, who has more than 25 years of experience improving healthcare quality and care coordination, is chief revenue officer for Good Measures.

8. Head of Measurement: Dana Safran. Ms. Safran was selected to serve as head of measurement for Haven last November. She is the former chief performance measurement and improvement officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.The appointment suggests that the venture will focus on making data-driven decisions.  Ms. Safran also is associate professor of medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

9. Head of Communications: Brooke Thurston. Ms. Thurston took her post in August. Prior to joining Haven, she served as vice president of communications for Boston-based Steward Health Care and as press secretary of the U.S. House of Representatives.
