Medicaid chief out after 3 months: 3 things to know

Mary Mayhew, the director of the Center for Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program Services, resigned after three months on the job, the agency said Jan. 4.

Here are three things to know:

1. Ms. Mayhew accepted a position with Florida's Republican Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis.

2. "I appreciate her efforts at CMS and I look forward to continuing to work with her as she uses her many talents to help the state of Florida create a healthcare system that serves the needs of its citizens," CMS Administrator Seema Verma said in a prepared statement.

3. Ms. Mayhew became the director of Medicaid and CHIP in October 2018. Ms. Mayhew previously served as Maine's Department of Health and Human Services' commissioner for seven years.
