The union — Service Employees International Union Local 49 — represents 340 service workers at McKenzie-Willamette. The group approved the contract, which will run through Dec. 2013, after 10 months of no employment agreement and more than a year of negotiations with CHS.

The contract calls for an immediate 1.4 percent wage increase followed by increases of 1.65 percent in July 2012 and 2.15 percent in July 2013. Under the agreement, CHS will match fully the first 1 percent and half of the next 5 percent of an employee contribution to a retirement account with a maximum contribution of 3.5 percent. In addition, employees will pay a greater share of their medical costs, depending on covered dependents and the type of medical treatment, but CHS will continue a subsidy plan for full-time workers making under $29,000 and part time workers making under $24,000.
