The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission has released to Congress its annual June report, which includes assessments of current Medicare payment systems as well as observations of the healthcare industry as it relates to Medicare.

MedPAC issues reports in March and June each year. This month’s 227-page report contains suggestions for adjustments and alternatives to the sustainable growth rate system and suggestions to improve payment accuracy for imaging and diagnostic tests.

Four chapters are devoted exclusively to Medicare while three chapters examine aspects of the broader healthcare system, such as dual-eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid, the function of federally qualified health centers and variation in private-sector payment rates for services.
