Maryland Hospitals Now Exempt from RAC DRG Validation

Diversified Collection Services, the RAC for the Northeast, recently stated that Maryland hospitals would not be subject to DRG validation audits, according to a report by the Maryland Hospital Association.

DCS stated that since the DRG assignment does not directly affect the reimbursement of an individual claim, an error in the DRG assignment should not result in a payment error. DCS said it is up to the Health Services Cost Review Commission, which sets rates of Maryland hospitals, to determine how DRG changes would affect a hospital’s aggregate reimbursement.
