State officials approved the downgraded licensing of JPS Diagnostic & Surgery Hospital of Arlington, which was previously a general hospital, on Aug. 19. JPS Health Network leaders first called for the downgrade last year because the facility was “ill-equipped” to care for the few emergency room patients that were admitted, according to the report.
The licensing downgrade to a surgical outpatient center should yield savings of approximately $1.6 million each year for JPS Health Network. JPS Surgical Center now offers ambulatory services, including general surgery and orthopedic surgery.
