“The number of Americans addicted to prescription drugs and heroin has been growing at an alarming rate,” Sen. Rubio said in a statement. “It’s important to ensure that proper treatment services are there for those who are seeking help or who have fallen through the cracks, and this bill will help them get the care they deserve.”
Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) are joining Sen. Rubio in co-sponsoring the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act.
The news of Sen. Rubio’s endorsement of the bill is perfect timing as he goes into the Tuesday primary in New Hampshire, where opioid abuse is a top issue.
