Here are three things to know about the layoffs.
1. A number of issues led to the layoffs, including the 25-bed hospital sustaining $1.2 million in operating losses since 2012, hospital officials said, according to the report. The hospital also attributed the layoffs to other factors such as a declining population in the Lincoln region, Maine’s failure to expand Medicaid, a reduction in state payments of Medicare bad debts and an increase in the number of high-deductible health insurance plans.
2. PVH has not identified the positions to be cut.
3. In addition to the planned layoffs, the hospital has instituted temporary hiring and capital purchase freezes, and developed a plan with medical provider Health Access Network of Lincoln, to help both continue to survive, according to the Bangor Daily News.
