State lawmakers have long voiced concerns over the financial sustainability of the planned University Medical Center. A report by the Illinois-based consulting firm Kaufman Hall & Associates said the 424-bed teaching hospital would cost the state from $70 million to more than $100 million in subsidies each year, according to a previous Becker’s Hospital Review news report.
Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration said the committee’s move, if fully passed through the full legislature, would not push back plans for hospital construction.
