Leading House Democrat calls for Congressional hearing on CVS-Aetna deal

Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, sent a letter to committee chairman Greg Walden, R-Ore., Tuesday calling for a Congressional hearing on the proposed CVS-Aetna merger.

Mr. Pallone said it is the committee's duty to examine the merger because of the growing importance of consolidation in healthcare today.

"The Committee, in particular, has an ongoing responsibility to evaluate and consider these changes to our healthcare system, so as to better understand the impact on consumers, patients, and providers," Mr. Pallone wrote. "Due to the scale of the CVS Health-Aetna merger, these changes should be thoroughly scrutinized and understood by the members of this Committee."
