This is the first time in the hospital’s 14-year history it has reported a loss from operations. Several factors are contributing to Mercy Hospital Cadillac’s losses, including reimbursement reductions and fewer inpatient admissions, according to the report.
As a result, hospital officials are considering a variety of cost-cutting measures, including layoffs and closing services. “We understand the impact that losing a job can have on our co-workers. The decision to lay anyone off will not be made without a tremendous amount of dialogue, brain-storming and discussion,” officials wrote in a memo to employees, according to the report.
