Laurel Regional to lay off more than 30, close maternal and child health unit: 4 things to know

More than 30 workers at Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital will be laid off next month when the maternal and child health unit closes, according to a WUSA9 report.

Here are four things to know about the layoffs.

1. The layoffs mostly affect labor and delivery nurses.

2. The change comes as Laurel Regional transitions from a full-service hospital to an ambulatory care center.

3. The hospital, part of Cheverly, Md.-based Dimensions Healthcare System, plans to close its maternal and child health unit next month.  

4. Dimensions Healthcare System says it’s working to help those affected by the layoffs find new jobs, according to the report.
