Philadelphia’s Aria Health Hopes to Build New Hospital Near New Jersey Border

Philadelphia-based Aria Health hopes to build a new hospital and medical complex in Lower Makefield, Pa., near the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border, according to a report by The Intelligencer.

In addition to the hospital, the campus would include a 40,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and a 40,000-square-foot medical office building.

However, the health system is facing opposition from local officials and residents due to issues including concerns over traffic. Before the project can move ahead, Aria must address these issues with the Lower Makefield Zoning Hearing Board.

The new medical complex would essentially replace Aria’s Bucks County campus in Falls, Pa., according to the report.

Aria’s plan was initially approved by the zoning hearing board in 2009 but a Bucks County judge recently said the health system must address the concerns raised about the project and sent the case back the board. No date has been set yet for the board to revisit the Aria plan.
