Kendall Regional’s Attempt to Overturn County Ruling on Trauma Program Debate Falls Short

Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami asked the Miami-Dade County Commission to reconsider a Jan. 23 resolution that authorized Jackson Health System in Miami to take legal action to protect its trauma programs, according to a report by The Miami Herald.

Commissioner Joe Diaz said to The Miami Herald that many of the thousands of emails he received from the community quoted a Kendall Regional executive saying that the resolution would force Kendall to close its trauma center. Commissioner Diaz said, however, that the commission simply gave Jackson the ability to defend itself.

The motion to reconsider the resolution died, according to the report.

The battle at the state level over a legally acceptable rule on trauma centers continues to rage.
