The board agreed last week that the proposal met the requirements of an agreement regarding healthcare access between Sutter and the county. The two groups entered into the agreement in 1996 when Sutter took over operations of the former county-managed hospital. The board is expected to render its official vote of approval today, according to the report.
Sutter has been trying to develop a new hospital in the area for nine years. The new facility will replace the aging Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa.
The California Nurses Association and Healdsburg District Hospital have criticized the proposed facility because it has fewer beds than the current facility and is difficult to access with public transpiration.
If approved, construction is scheduled to begin on Oct. 1.
