Last year Raleigh, N.C.-based Rex Healthcare gained certificate of need approval to build a 50-bed hospital in Holly Springs, N.C., and WakeMed, also based in Raleigh, won approval to add 51 beds to its campuses.
Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health appealed the CON approvals. The impact of the latest ruling is unclear at this time. If the ruling stands upon appeal, the CON review process would have to be repeated, according to the report.
