Frank Devocelle, who previously served as president and CEO of Olathe (Kan.) Health, died Oct. 13 at age 79.
Mr. Devocelle retired in 2018 after serving as CEO since 1975, ending a 47-year career with the organization.
He was an “instrumental leader who has committed to transforming healthcare in Olathe and the Kansas City metro,” The University of Kansas Health System said in an Oct. 19 LinkedIn post. Olathe Health signed a letter of intent to join the academic health system in 2022.
Mr. Devocelle first joined Olathe Community Hospital in 1971 and became CEO four years later, according to his obituary. During his tenure, the 100-bed community hospital grew into a regional health system with nearly 2,600 employees and more than 60 sites of care.
Under his leadership, the system expanded its clinical services, including the development of a cancer center, cardiovascular center, level 2 neonatal intensive care unit and expanded memory care services. He also helped establish partnerships with local educational institutions and supported the development of the Olathe Health Education Center, according to the obituary.
