IU Health plans to evaluate patient care needs, according to the report. A 25-member team of senior health system leaders and physicians will consider whether the two hospitals should merge. No definitive timeline was given for when the group will make a final determination, according to the report.

The emergency rooms at the two hospitals will consolidate next month. University Hospital’s emergency department will close July 1 and direct its patients to Methodist Hospital’s ED, according to the report.
