The study looked at hospitals’ and health systems’ three-year risk for readmissions and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems score. CipherHealth compared the total at-risk ranking with their per-bed at-risk ranking, and found significant differences. For example, California ranks second in total at-risk amount, but ranks 30th in risk per bed.
“The risk per bed view is a much more effective way to look at the data. Thinking of penalties on a per-bed basis helps hospitals to prioritize the dozens of different pieces of legislation and focus on what will create the most value for their organization,” said Zachary Silverzweig, one of the founders of CipherHealth, in the release.
