In Another Round of Layoffs, UMass Memorial Medical Center Cuts 99 Positions

Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Medical Center has eliminated 99 positions, including clinical staff and employees at the vice president level, according to a report by the Worcester Business Journal.

One-third of the affected positions were empty, according to the report. In addition to vice presidents, managers and directors were also affected by the cuts.

This is the second round of layoffs in two months at UMass Memorial Health Care: 40 employees lost their jobs in December.

“This is part of an ongoing restructuring aimed at significantly improving alignment and accountability for clinical services,” a UMMHC spokesperson told the Worcester Business Journal. “This work will continue over the coming months.”

UMMHC recently posted an operating loss of about $57 million.
