Rhode Island Providers to Face Majority of Cuts in Lawmaker’s Proposed Deficit-Reduction Plan

A majority of Rhode Island House lawmakers expressed support of a proposed $7.7 billion budget, a majority of which includes payment cuts to healthcare providers, according to a Providence Journal news report.

Rhode Island currently faces a budget shortfall of nearly $302 million, and the proposed spending plan, which will go under a vote by the full House this Friday, includes a wide array of spending cuts. According to the news report, the plan outlined cuts in state spending totaling $150 million. Of that, hospitals, nursing homes and other care providers would face approximately $45 million in payment cuts.
