The public health system had planned to close the hospital June 1 and convert it to an outpatient facility, so a replacement was not secured. However, the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board ruled last week that the hospital must remain open in order to maintain healthcare access for the community.
Surgeries have been shifted to Provident Hospital in Chicago as the health system board reviews its options in the wake of the ruling.
