Ideal Protein appoints medical advisory board members: 10 things to know

Ideal Protein, a provider of a medically-designed weight loss protocol, has appointed its inaugural medical advisory board.

Members include Ideal Protein's resident medical advisors Tran Tien Chanh, MD, PhD, co-founder of Ideal Protein, board-certified cardiologist Douglas W. Rothrock, MD, as well as eight practitioners from a range of medical specialties including gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, endocrinology and pharmacology.

Here are 10 things to know about the members.

1. Dr. Tran Tien is an award-winning graduate of the Faculty of Medicine in Paris. Early in his career, Dr. Tran Tien became interested in nutrition, and as a result, developed the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method and authored several books on the protein diet.

2. Dr. Rothrock co-owns Prescott Cardiology and The Heart Shop in Prescott, Ariz.  He currently serves as the Ideal Protein of America senior medical advisor.

3. Linda Anegawa, MD, founded OSR Weight Management-Hawai'i Metabolic Medicine, an obesity-focused specialty care practice utilizing the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method. Dr. Anegawa is double-board-certified in obesity medicine and is an Internal Medicine Fellow with the American College of Physicians.

4. Kelly G. Bagnell, MD, is a practicing OB/GYN in Polson, Mont. Dr. Bagnell earned a doctoral degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

5. Thomas C. Blevins, MD, is in private practice at Texas Diabetes and Endocrinology in Austin. Dr. Blevins is board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism and lipidology. He is a fellow of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology and of the National Lipid Association.

6. Michael P. Ciell, RPh, joined Ideal Protein in 2006 and helped launch the company. He currently is senior scientific advisor at Ideal Protein.  

7. Ann K. Kuenker, DO, is board-certified in family medicine and has been practicing in the Traverse City, Mich., area for nearly three decades. Dr. Kuenker's practice focuses on wellness and prevention. For the last eight years, she has offered the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Method at her Michigan offices in Traverse City, Elk Rapids and Petoskey.

8. Douglas G. Matzner, DC, is the director and driving force behind Matzner Clinic of Chiropractic Medicine in Champaign, Ill., according to a news release. Dr. Matzner is a board-certified diplomate of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

9. Ashok Rai, MD, is president and CEO of Prevea Health in Green Bay, Wis. Dr. Rai is on the board of several local, regional and national community and medical organizations including the American Medical Group Association. In addition to his leadership role and community involvement at the local and national level, Dr. Rai also serves as a hospitalist.

10. Karen Riley, RPh, is the professional pharmacy services consultant for Ideal Protein, and clinical assistant professor with the University of Florida College of Pharmacy in Gainesville. She is the pharmacist consultant and developer of the Hogan Pharmacy Ideal Protein program.
