The workers, most of whom are support staff, are represented by District 1199C of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees — American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees. Their contracts with hospitals — including Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Hahnemann University Hospital, Temple University Health Systems, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and more — are set to expire June 30.
The union members took the vote to authorize a strike Wednesday, when hundreds also marched from hospital to hospital in Philadelphia as part of a rally.
