How greater diversity can lead to innovation

Leaders are always looking for ways to cultivate an environment that supports innovation, and promoting diversity is one of the most underestimated ways to achieve this goal, according to Chief Executive.

Dialogue is the driving force of innovation, but dialogue among completely like-minded individuals does not encourage out-of-the-box ideas. Only when different perspectives come into contact can the same problems be tackled with renewed energy.

“The true catalyst of innovation is the web of relationships between people who do not think alike. This places diversity in the center of the conversation about innovation,” Dan Schmitz, an organizational design consultant, wrote in Chief Executive. “Activating the potential of diversity is the responsibility of leadership at all levels of an organization.”
