Here are four things to know:
1. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is expected to become incoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, confirmed Democrats will review whether President Donald Trump used the powers of the federal government to punish companies like Amazon and AT&T.
“It is very squarely within our responsibility to find out,” Mr. Schiff said.
2. A House Oversight and Government Reform Committee aide told Reuters Nov. 11 the committee has “already been investigating these matters, but the Trump Administration to date has not complied with our requests. We fully expect that to change now that we are in the majority.”
3. Mr. Schiff said President Trump was reportedly “secretly meeting with the postmaster (general) in an effort to browbeat the postmaster into raising postal rates on Amazon. … This appears to be an effort by the president to use the instruments of state power to punish Jeff Bezos and The Washington Post,” according to the report. Mr. Bezos owns The Washington Post.
4. Representatives from Mr. Schiff, AT&T, Amazon and the White House declined or did not immediately comment on the issue to Reuters.
