Carolinas HealthCare System, the second-largest public healthcare system in the nation, earned more than $241 million in the first nine months of 2010 compared to $387.8 million during the same time span last year, according to a Charlotte Business Journal report.
The report includes the following financial results from the first nine months of 2010:
• A 22.2 percent increase in the system’s net operating revenue to $4.7 billion.
• Operating income exceeding $117 million compared to last year’s $104 million.
• Reported investment income of $101.7 million compared to $250 million last year.
• A 17.6 percent increase in adjusted discharges.
• A 16.2 percent increase in uncompensated care costs to $497 million, compared to $416 million last year.
