Hospital-Owned Urgent Care Centers May Charge ER Prices

Some hospital-owned urgent care centers charge emergency room prices, according to a Sun Sentinel report.

An urgent care center owned by Baptist Health South Florida, for instance, charged a patient $508 for providing antibiotic gel and a Band-Aid in a 15-minute visit. Other walk-in clinics may charge $50 or $100 for the same service, according to the report.

Baptist, based in Coral Gables, Fla., owns 13 urgent care clinics that are licensed as extensions of Baptist hospitals’ emergency rooms.
