Three major Memphis hospital systems have more than tripled the number of physicians employed at their hospitals in the past year, according to a Commercial Appeal report.

At the end of 2010, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Baptist Memorial Health Care and Saint Francis hospitals employed 84 physicians. By Nov. 2011, that figure had grown to more than 400.

Baptist recently partnered with Boston Baskin Cancer Group, Memphis Lung Physicians and Humphreys Family Practice. Methodist recently partnered with The West Clinic, McClatchy Medical Center and Midtown Internal Medicine. Saint Francis Medical Partners, which is owned by Tenet Healthcare, has continually added physicians over the year to staff hospital-branded clinics, according to the report.
