Health Management Florida Group President Alan Levine told the Naples News, “At the end of the day, a long protracted legal fight, it really isn’t something we are interested in.” Mr. Levine said the for-profit chain was focusing on other priorities in the wake of its recently finalized joint venture with Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Lee Memorial tabled its plans for a new hospital during the economic downturn after purchasing 33 acres of land in Lee County, but it is now pushing through an application with the state. Health Management has said it will not oppose Lee Memorial seeking a hospital license, but it remains to be seen if NCH Healthcare System, based in Naples, Fla., will do so once it has reviewed Lee Memorial’s certificate of need application, according to the report. That application is expected to be made public April 12, with a state decision on the license due June 7.
