Hillary Clinton calls for more medical marijuana research

Hillary Rodham Clinton, candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, called for more research on medical marijuana and lighter restrictions on the drug at a town hall Saturday in Orangeburg, S.C., according to The New York Times.

“I do support the use of medical marijuana,” Ms. Clinton said, according to The New York Times. “I think even there we need to do a lot more research so that we know exactly how we’re going to help people for whom medical marijuana provides relief,” she added, according to the report.

She said the drug should be moved from Schedule I to Schedule II under the Controlled Substances Act, which would loosen regulation of the drug so more research can be done, according to the report.

The town hall was hosted by journalist Roland Martin at Claflin University.
